It makes me nervous when a client asks me about a product, ingredient, or skincare device I haven’t heard of.

I don’t want to come off as not being up on everything related to skincare of my profession. What’s a good way to handle this so I don’t feel so intimidated? Thank you!

I understand how you may feel. But whether in any line of work there’s no way anyone can know everything about it, especially with so many new things entering our career space as often as they do.
This is a reason those new drugs we see advertised on news networks suggest viewers to “ask or tell your doctor” about them. They know a physician can’t know everything, so we’re doing the advertising for those advertisers.
When a client would ask such a question of me and I didn’t know the answer I did two things: 1. I would ask the client why that product or treatment interested them, and 2. Thank them for the question, and while I hadn’t heard of the product or treatment, would research it so I could offer them an informed answer.
No one expects us to have answers to every possible skincare option in our business but being willing to learn more is a great way to showcase your professionalism.
