Some of my younger acne clients are telling me about skincare advice they see on social media.

Much of it contradicts my professional advice. What do you suggest?

Yep, my teen clients do this all the time. Most of the time my response is, “Well, try it and we’ll see what happens.”

They usually look uncomfortable when I don’t confirm their new “knowledge” and are less inclined to experiment when left up to them alone.

There’s no effective way to combat social media influencing—we may as well try to take their phones away—but I offer my sincere opinion about what they’re seeing without judgment or admonishment.

My work has always performed best, and I personally feel the best, when I don’t attempt to control the world I operate in.
